Aberts Squirrels in the Pine Forests of Colorado
By Evergreen, Colorado Artist Barb Adkins
Aberts Squirrels chase each other all over our neighborhood. What makes them so unique in the squirrel world is their very long tufted ears. They live in Pine trees, so love it here in Colorado.
Our Aberts are all black in color with brown or gray or even blue coloring depending how the light hits their fur. They have a deep barking sound when they are upset that you are invading their space. Their color is also interesting because they can be more gray or mixed black, gray and white. How interesting to see these little guys scampering about with huge fluffy tails and such long intense ear tufts. What a shock they were to see these strange squirrels when we first moved here. We certainly didn't have these in Indiana or Kansas.
