Got Corn?

Mrs. Deer poking her head in between the deck stair rails
By Evergreen, Colorado Artist Barb Adkins
We are so lucky to have a small heard of Mule Deer that roam our neighborhood. They eat the new grass shoots and hope someone has put out alphalpha or corn for them to nibble on. There are about 15-20 in the group now. It looks as if at least 4 are expecting in June.
They came to our house. I was sitting on the lower deck steps to the yard, taking pictures. One Momma kept coming closer, with high hopes of getting something. We actually made eye contact. All I had was my camera. Sitting very still, I just waited. Closer, Closer....Don't move....She will have to stick her head through the rail if she gets any closer..... Take The Shot! Got It!
Back she jumped in great surprise from the small sound of the camera shutter. But, I did get the shot.
A few days later we were looking at pictures on the big screen,.... and did WE ever jump! Suddenly, there was this huge deer looking right at all of us! Oh wait... it was just the photo.... of Mrs. Deer hoping to get some corn from me.
How cute was that?
It is a moment in time I had to paint to share with others. the brown or cedar colored edges of the painting are the deck rails she was poking head through. I Hope you enjoy it too.
9" x 11" x 7/8" Acrylic on Pine, Gallery Edge painted on all sides.
The 7/8" edge of this painting is painted as a Gallery Edge. It is painted to match the picture. It is framed in a Silhouette Frame that will show off the Gallery Edge painting. I like to paint the edges as part of the picture to give you a choice of how to hang it. When you are coming into a room or down a hall the effect is to give a color visual of something to see that is different or unexpected, rather than the regular edge of wood frame.
Gallery Edge painting in Custom Silhouette Walnut Frame, Triple Color Coordinated Archival Mat 18" x 22" $650.00
