inquirePheasant Flying Over An Open Field
By Evergreen, Colorado Artists Barb and Tom Adkins
Fully 3 Dimensional Ring Necked Pheasant
One day Tom came to me with a little piece of plain rectangular oak board that had the grain lines flowing across it. With a small Ring Neck Pheasant in his hand he showed me what he thought would be a striking piece of art. This piece of wood had told us what to do with it.
The grain of the wood was perfect for the flow of the grain rows of a farm field. As soon as he said it, I too could see the picture. A quiet winter day, the barn, the row of trees far off in the distance, the clear blue sky and of course the Pheasant in flight seeking his next place to forage for grain.
The Fence Posts are 3 Dimensional, hand made pieces.
The rows of grain in the field are painted to exactly follow the flow of the Oak gain in the wood.
The field wraps around each edge of the Oak Board.
The base is Slate mounted on Walnut. The colorations in the slate also continue the vision of the dirt in the field.
The back of the oak board is lightly painted for you to see the grain of the wood that I followed to paint the field rows.
This piece is a Diorama. Diorama in modern usage, is a three-dimensional full-size or miniature model. Dioramas are often seen enclosed in a glass showcase for a museum.
